The Speech Department guides the student in the creation and maintenance of professional and personal relationships and stresses the importance of effective communication in all relationships.
A goal of the Speech Department is to emphasize three important communication skills:
-
- Develop a deeper understanding of the role diversity plays in the communications we create and consume.
- Develop critical thinking skills while learning to distinguish between credible and false messages (social media, internet, face-to-face.
- Develop the skills of competent communicators in a variety of contexts (public address, small groups, interpersonal, intercultural, corporate/business).
Achieving these competencies are critical to the success of an individual in their professional and personal worlds.
